Coconut fiber is the organic material found between the soft outer shell and hard inner shell of the coconut. Its function in nature is to protect the fruit of the coconut and in its natural state, this fiber is resistant to disease and insect infestation. These qualities have made it an ideal product for certain horticultural uses, including the liners we make for our hanging and decorative planters. Woven from 100% natural coconut fiber, our Cocomoss liners contain no glue or additives that could potentially counter the fiber's beneficial effects. Insects do not live in the fiber, and any excess water drains through the planter greatly reducing the possibility of disease. The fiber does not absorb water the way sphagnum moss does and so will not compete with the plant for available moisture during times of stress. Finally, the liner allows air movement through the basket, enabling the roots of the plant to "breathe" promoting stronger development and increased top growth. |
